Save Money, Making Magic!
Here’s a great little how-to clip for those looking to save money but need to do a little broadcasting as well. Our very own Jerry Markham and Tom Stagg built this teleprompter and created this video to share with everyone else, check it out!

Here is also a description of how to go about creating this cool tool which might cost you around $800 buying it online when we only spent around $75.
TOOLS
Tools used were A table saw, router, screwdriver, drill, and sewing machine.
PARTS
Parts were 50/50 beamsplitter glass, wood, screws, hinges, latch,
Velcro strips, canvas.
PROCESS
We used ¼ inch plywood for the base of the chassis, sized to fit our
thinkpad laptop (17”x22”), with 1.5×3/4” strips to support the glass
frame. We use two 1.5” hinges to attach the glass frame, and a swing
hinge with a wingnut to allow variable frame positioning. We even
used a magnetic latch from the glass door an old stereo rack, and
shock pads on the underside of the glass frame. .We placed rubber feet
on the base, allowing it to be places on a pedestal or shelf for use,
but we wanted the ability to put the whole device on a tripod, so we
routed a channel to fit our tripod using a 2×4. The most technically
difficult part of the process was the routing. We also routed a 2×4
to receive the tripod foot and hold the camera. Finally, we painted
it with black spraypaint. The last step was to create a hood to keep
light off the back side of the glass. This was made out of medium
weight canvas and Velcro strips, which were sewn to the hood and glued
to the wood.
The unit weighs less than 10 pounds.
We downloaded our software, MirrorScriptPro, at freetelepromptersoftware.com.

So Many Mustaches!
Jodi Buell, whom is involved with the American Cancer Society PDX CANswer Project, noticed a Sharing Hope status update on Facebook about Mustache March at this years SXSW and shared some information about a similar event taking place in Portland, OR called March Man-ness Celebration. Can’t come to Austin or simply don’t enjoy travel and are in the Portland area? Grow a mustache (or grab a button, for the mustache impaired) and check it out!
Become a fan of the Sharing Hope Facebook fan page to show your support for the fight on cancer and meet other cancer conscious in the online community!

United Way Capital Area Austin Shares Hope by Sharing Blogspace
We just want to give a shout out to United Way Capital Area Austin for publicizing our Great American Smoke Out/ SharingHope.tv contest on their blog. In the spirit of sharing, we’ll gladly reciprocate. If you live in Austin and are looking for volunteer opportunities, the United Way is a great place to start. Go to Hands On Central Texas to see where volunteers are needed.
Did you know that the branch of ACS responsible for launching SharingHope.tv is also located in Austin? I feel blessed to live in a city with so many folks who share United Way’s spirit of bringing people together to advance the common good.

Make Blood Shortages History with National Bloggers Blood Drive Day
Yesterday, I met Michelle Greer, a blogger with lots of energy for doing good. She asked me to post the article below. Michelle’s sister is a leukemia survivor, so support for cancer patients is one of her passions. I totally buy into Michelle’s mantra:
If you don’t DO SOMETHING with social media, people will ultimately see it as a waste of time.
SharingHope.tv is all about using social media for good. Now read on!

A Utah man named Phil Burns is calling bloggers everywhere to participate in the National Bloggers Blood Drive. If you have a blog (or even if you don’t), he’s asking you to coordinate a blood drive in your area to meet the ever increasing needs at local blood banks.
What is motivating Phil to organize these drives? Phil’s daughter Serenity has acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a condition that requires dozens of blood transfusions.
Phil is calling bloggers everywhere to blog, organize, send Twitter messages, and muster as much support for blood banks everywhere. Don’t just blog it though. Sign up to give blood and as well as for takesalltypes.org, a service that sends you textmessages anytime your blood type is needed in your area. Let’s show Phil and Serenity that people do care about those in need by creating and building blood drives around the country on this day.
For more information on Phil’s blood drive in Utah , please visit his blog. Learn more about Serenity and her situation on her site. If you choose to organize a drive in your area, please leave a comment on this blog with the information, and we will link to your post and encourage others to participate in your area.
If you are a cancer patient, you might not be able to give blood, but you might be able to tell others what it is like to need it. Please spread the word!
